BHAD makes donation to City of Dover Police Department May 6, 2017

May 15 2017 by Shirley Bigelow

Blue Heron Agility Dogs of Delaware (BHAD) presented a $1,000 check to the City of Dover Police Department on May 6, 2017 at the agility trials in Frederica, Delaware to cover the cost of a new K9 protective vest.  The check was presented to Captain Spicer, Officer Figueroa and his K9 partner, Reeko.   Also attending the presentation were AKC (American Kennel Club) judges Ginger Robertson and Zach Davis.

This donation will provide a protective vest to the newest 4-legged member of the department.  Captain Spicer indicated they will be purchasing a new K9 this month.

BHAD is a small AKC sanctioned performance club.  We have been providing AKC Agility trials in Delaware and Maryland for 6 years.  The funds from the events go back into our community through the donations for protective vests and other canine needs.  The Club has been able to provide 7 vests over the past 4 years.  Another vest will be donated in September at our next agility trial to be held at Heartland Equestrian Center in Frederica, Delaware.

Our Club goal is to make sure all of our K9 partners are protected with the best possible equipment.  We are very proud of the fact that a club as small as ours, (33 members), has been able to bring attention to canine training and awareness, and we are able to offer 3 agility trials per year in our area.

BHAD Thanked for 2016 Donation to DE K9 Unit

March 17 2017 by Shirley Bigelow

Denise Jester, a member of the Blue Heron Agility Association, was instrumental in arranging for the funds from the organization to purchase a new protective vest for the Delaware State Police K9 “Blue”.

Each year BHAD chooses two K9 Units to donate funds to for the purchase of a safety vest.

Good afternoon Denise,

Once again on behalf of myself and the Chief of Police, thank you so much for your club's donation. I just wanted to email you the information you requested about my dog. Blue is a 5 year old Belgian Malinois that I got in March of 2012. Blue received initial training from the Delaware State Police K9 unit which consisted of a total of 24 weeks. Blue is trained in Patrol, Tracking and Narcotics detection. Blue receives monthly training (Approx. 20 hrs) from the Delaware State Police K9 training division. Blue was imported from the Netherlands in February of 2012 to a K9 kennel in Virginia called American K9 interdiction inc.

Thanks again,

Thanks again,

BHAD Does Good Deed for Delaware State Police

December 01 2013 by BHADD

At our November 5, 2013, meeting, held at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, our club’s treasurer, Denise Jester, presented representatives from the Delaware State Police Canine Unit with a $2,000 check to go towards the purchase of two bulletproof vests for their canine partners. Corporal Lenny Aguilar, along with two other officers and their canine partners, shared their program and experiences with us. Aguilar introduced us to Corporal Chris Donaldson with K9 Ripper and Corporal Bill Brennan with K9 Dirk, who described their training with and personalities of their dogs. In turn, Ripper and Dirk showed us how eager they are to please their human partners as long as they can get their only reward, a tennis ball!

Because the meeting room at the hospital was too small to show us safely what Dirk and Ripper have been trained to do, Aguilar intends to provide us with a working demo at BHAD’s next trial at Heartland Stables in Frederica, DE, in February.
